Myth: “Embodied carbon can wait. Operational energy is the main thing.”

Reality: operational energy can still improve after handover.

Embodied carbon is mostly locked in during design, specification, procurement, and construction.

That means material choices matter early.

Start simple:

• Ask for EPDs where available
• Compare like-for-like options
• Watch vague sustainability claims
• Make carbon data part of procurement

Because embodied carbon is not only an ESG topic. It is a procurement discipline.
